President Biden signs new Respect for Marriage Act

Today U.S. President Joe Biden signed an important piece of legislation promoting the rights of same-sex couples to marry in the United States, effectively ending the 25-year-old Defense of Marriage Act. The new law doesn’t make it mandatory for each state to conduct same-sex marriages, but it does mandate that each state recognize such marriages from other states as legal based on sex, race, or ethnicity.

The new U.S. law comes on the heels of all 31 Mexican states recognizing legal same-sex marriages earlier in 2022. #loveislove
