New York Times Advice on Destination Celebrations

This week the New York Times travel section offered its readers some great advice on planning all types of destination celebrations, whether weddings, important birthdays, or even corporate events. Their top five suggestions:

  • Know your budget. Many people don’t have a clear idea of their event budget and then get surprised by “unexpected” costs later down the road.
  • Be upfront about who pays. Be clear with your guests from the beginning about expectations of what they’ll be expected to pay for.
  • Have a representative to help you with planning. Whether a representative of the hotel you’re choosing or an independent event planner, or even a travel agent who specializes in group travel.
  • Pick the right destination. Choose a place within a three-hour nonstop flight of the majority of your guests.
  • Consider a hotel buyout. This means tailoring the size of the hotel to the size of your group and then reserving the entire space just for your group.

At Mexico Event Design, we specialize in exactly this kind of trip for the international LGBTQ Community, and we tailor our clients’ venues to fit exactly with the size of their group of guests.
